Join Performance Artist Martin O'Brien as he moves and talks his way through a series of actions designed to push his body to the limits at the same time as mapping out the changes in his physical condition. Framed as a fitness class, 'Repetitive Strain Syndrome' is O'Brien's third solo continuing his explorations into physical endurance in performance. 'Repetitive Strain Syndrome' is a thoughtful and often humorous exploration and revealing of the absurdity, beauty and vulnerability of the human body by exposing it at a moment of extremity, during the act of intense physical activity. The audience are invited to join in or watch this most disturbing and absurd of fitness classes, as O'Brien eccentrically conducts and demonstrates this newly designed fitness routine, (the kind of class you would never catch your grandmother and auntie at) which he claims to be the 'way forward for those who are serious about keeping fit or losing weight'. Witness how his commitment to the routine drives him to the edge of his physical abilities (and possibly to the edge of sanity), blurring the boundaries of what performance can be, never sure whether he is performing or speaking truthfully as he attempts to give the same amount of vigour and energy even when his body is screaming 'it's time to stop'.
