Queen of Wyoming

T092946211
Raised and currently residing in the Rocky Mountains, Maggie Simpson is an extremely private individual, yet a remarkably moving and self-revealing performer. Coming from one of the longest-serving political families in the US; her grandfather, Milward Simpson, was a Governor and Senator of Wyoming and one of six Republican senators to vote against the Civil Rights Act 1964; her father, Peter Simpson, was elected to the Wyoming legislature; her uncle, Alan Simpson, is also a former US Senator of Wyoming; her cousins, Colin and William Simpson, are a congressman for Wyoming and a US state senator respectively. Not your typical folk musician, Simpson's music covers a broad spectrum from ethereal, lyrical ballads to hard-edged, funk-infected grooves. Her song writing reveals a complex, sophisticated rhythmic and harmonic sense but springs from a raw innocence that keeps it accessible. With her magnificent clarion voice and twelve-string guitar, Maggie's songs push human issues and complicated emotions into the realm of instructive parable, her stories are simple yet profound; disarmingly unselfconscious. In her solo show Queen of Wyoming, politics, music and family all collide on the plains of the American Midwest as Maggie recounts her life-story so far to create a show that is simple and complex, dramatic and subtle and singularly Maggie.
