Overall:
1.00Dean (05Apr16): York Theatre Royal Sunday 3rd April - Really sorry to say this and what a shame, but Ray missed a great opportunity here with this performance/talk. So many things missing and found wanting in the presentation. I know that Ray is a genuinely nice chap (my son has met him on a kids bushcraft course), and obviously he has an amazing amount of knowledge and experience, but this talk just lost the audiences attention early on, the loudest sound I could hear was people shuffling in there seats all around me, it was almost embarrassing. Both myself and my son were expecting Rays own tales and stories of his adventures, interspersed maybe with some survival tips and tricks etc. The he did a section on the whistle and signal mirror I could feel the audience start to engage then it was gone. The Q & A session was in the main very quickly skipped over, some questions just not given any consideration at all, just what was the point. Don't get me wrong the tales spoken of were heroic and humbling but just not for this audience or this setting. As I say it really pains me to write this and I do so with much respect to the man, but Ray, just for future presentations/events and for your own sake I would take some professional advice regarding the whole format. content and general presentation. 1
Smith (08Mar16): What a disappointing and depressing evening with Ray Mears.Tales of unremitting gloom with nothing about survival skills or bushcraft. 1
