White Squal
White chalk, white board, white paper, white pants, white socks, white boxers, white collar, white lie, white gown, white suit, white wedding, white wine, white milk, white bread, white flour, white sugar, white snow, white space, white wall, white paint, white line, white wand, white witch, white light, white rabbit, white dove, white whale, white sea, white noise, white heat, white ash, white land, white hair, white hands, white skin, white flag.... white flag.... white flag.... white squall In White Squall Sheila Ghelani investigates 'whiteness' - as a colour, 'idea', cultural signifier, surface, veneer and ultimate symbol of horror. What if the whiteness isn't to be trusted? What if it isn't as pure and innocent as it at first seems? What if the whiteness has a secret that should never have been shared, but carefully folded, neatly ironed, and placed in a drawer at the back? Perhaps you would be wise to keep away... Perhaps you would be wise to keep a watchful eye on those soft white clouds. That white capped sea. That sleek white bird circling over-head. Batten down your hatches people, there's some bad weather ahead, some very, very bad weather... White Squall is the second result of a series of inquiries Sheila is currently carrying out into mixing, crossings, blood, skins, skinning, carefully controlled experiments, well-oiled machinery, colour, genetics, joining and love.
