Details

Based on the short story by Isak Dinesen (also a notable film), Babette's Feast tells the story of two beautiful Norwegian sisters, Martine and Philippa. Despite many suitors they choose to stay with their father, the honoured Pastor of a small Protestant church. Even after h is death they continue his good work. One day a mysterious French woman, Babette, arrives at their door to take on the duties of cook/maid. Despite the three women working tirelessly for the needy of the village, gradually old grudges resurface in the community. To heal local wounds Babette asks to take charge of the 100th anniversary dinner in celebration of the birth of the Pastor. As Babette makes the preparations for her feast both her sudden good fortune and her extraordinary past are revealed as quarrels are settled, past sins forgiven and lives transformed for ever.
