User Review: 03Oct17: Of course this production is beautifully played and sung, as every production from the ROH should be. But it should surely be intelligent too. And it isn't. In fact some aspects are so bad as to be ridiculous, and even comical. The worst of these horrendous moments is the Amazing Moving Shed that utterly ruins the climactic scenes by shuffling awkwardly about in the snow. Yes, it shuffles, and no, it doesn't shuffle off. It sort of parks itself out of the way of the dying, but in doing so it removes any sense of tragedy. All right, one has to suspend one's brain for many operas, and particularly for this one, but there are so many ghastly moments in this that one wonders if any intelligent person had a look at it before its debut. Don't believe me? Go look.
