Details

The Diary of One Who Disappeared - about a young man who abandons his home and is lured into the forest by his sexual infatuation with a gypsy - was inspired by a woman with whom Janacek had an all-consuming, but unreciprocated passion. The same woman was later transformed into the heroine of three of his finest operas Katya Kabanove, The Cunning Little Vixen and The Makropulos Case.
