Overall:
5.00South London Guardian (11Jan01): Bumbly rugger boy Tamino ([Eugene Ginty]), a prince out for a stroll, finds himself lost in a magic wood, where he meets the scruffy love-sick twitcher Papageno. The staging and costume design sets out the piece as other-worldly, yet intimate and familiar - a perfect setting for Mozart's vibrant, lustrous arrangements. The voices are flawless, especially that of [Laure Meloy] as the Queen, that most challenging of soprano parts, and the cast moves the dizzy tale along at a rollicking pace. [Richard Burkhard] as Papageno, steals the show playing the, witty, cynical birdcatcher. 5
