Tosca

ToscaT01806577048
It is the eve of the Battle of Marengo. Napoleon's army has caused chaos and disarray throughout all Italy. Against this background of political turmoil stands Floria Tosca, Rome's famous and most beautiful opera singer. To save her lover, Cavaradossi, she must sacrifice her virtue to the evil Baron Scarpia. Can the power of love and honour ever prevail against the forces of corruption and betrayal? Tosca is a moving and passionate exploration of personal freedom, the cost of ideals and the choices forced on us by love.

Production details

Paris. August, 1944. As the Second World War rages on, lovers Tosca and Cavaradossi give refuge to a political prisoner and find themselves ensnared in the machinations of the tyrannical head of the Paris Gestapo, Scarpia. As Charles De Gaulle's liberation movement advances and US troops tighten their net around the Nazi occupiers, everything Tosca holds dear is about to be torn apart. The King's Head Theatre's brand new production of Puccini's searing thriller of power and passion relocates the action to the heart of the twentieth century's defining conflict. With rousing melodies, an intimate setting and a brand new libretto by Adam Spreadbury-Maher and Becca Marriott, this is Tosca as you've never seen it before! Gala Night Oct 4
