University of the Arts in Philadephia - A Lyrical Opera Made by Two
T0
American poet, playwright, modernist visionary - Gertrude Stein was at the center of one of the most important artistic revolutions of the last century. Stein created the libretto for A Lyrical Opera Made by Two in the late 1920s, based on memories and images of her relationship with her life-long partner, Alice Toklas. William Turner s imaginative musical setting was staged in Pittsburgh and New York in 1980, and director Charles Gilbert, who worked closely with the composer on the premiere, has restored this charming and distinctive work for the Cardiff festival. Made by Two is a production of the University of the Arts in Philadephia.
