User Review: 15Jan14: IS there room for a panto which relies more on tradition than special effects? Oh, yes, there most certainly is. The Whitley Bay Playhouse production of Aladdin sticks to what worked well last year for the venue – huge dollops of fun and slapstick, backed up by song and dance. There is nothing groundbreaking about the panto, but it wins because of the hard work and personality of the cast. Even if there is a hiccup in proceedings, it doesn’t really matter because the audience is already engaged and having a good time. The story of Aladdin is tried and tested over many years and the Playhouse production is true to the classic story. The production pulls in all the vital ingredients which make panto so great. All in all, the Playhouse provides a top-notch traditional show for a value-for-money price.
