Dickie Beau is an actor, physical performer and intrepid drag fabulist. He takes the familiar technique of lip-synch and refines it into an artform, to create work which is funny, virtuosic and eerily beautiful.

Lost in Trans
Dickie Beau presents a poetic performance of peculiar personas. Taking Ovid's Metamorphoses as his inspiration, Dickie Beau brings to centre stage figures more commonly positioned at the margins of the mainstream. Continuing his shtick of using playback performance, in which he 'channels' voices he sees as being misplaced, misrepresented or misunderstood, Dickie breathes new life into found sound. He 're-writes' audio artefacts and plays them back through his body to become a live performing archive of the missing. Presenting a compelling constellation of vivid characters inspired by cultural antiquity, Lost in Trans- is an off-road trip through the cultural archives. Cyclops, the one-eyed giant, becomes a third eye through which we view the world anew, including a radical re-visioning of Echo the Nymph. All that remained after Echo died of a broken heart and her bones turned to stone was the sound of her voice... From Azerbaijan to Christchurch, New Zealand and festivals in-between, Le Gateau's joyous and honest performances have endeared him to audiences globally.
