Details

Emma D'Arcy has chosen some of her favourite poems written by the late Robert Calvert, to read to us for the start of our evening, prior to the interval . After putting us in a Calvert mood, and after the interval, we then have one of our favourite of Calvert's plays, MIRROR MIRROR Mirror Mirror is a futuristic dark comic fantasy set in 2050, written in 1979 by Bob Calvert (Ex Hawkwind) for his friend actress Helen Mirren. It features Eleanor Bryant with her psychochromic dress (Amanda Sterkenburg), and mirror-technician (Luke Bennett) who becomes embroiled in her fantasy. This one-act play premiered at Pentameters in 2008 and will show at Iambic for three days only as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival. A must see! "Luke Bennett conveys the outlandish comedy and hollow pathos of his character superbly, and Amanda Sterkenburg is persuasive as the future face of femininity." Time Out, Nov 2008
