Involuntary Dances is a one-off, 24 hour event presenting epilepsy as performance as part of an autobiographical journey for the artist. Rita Marcalo is a performance artist who suffers from epilepsy. Involuntary Dances deals with the 'illness' or with the bodily state of being in a seizure. The performance also explores the difference between Rita's chosen profession as a dance artist, and the often hidden disability of epilepsy from which she suffers. Rita will be performing and also curating a group of ten other artists who will be putting on a range of related performances.
