Real Words From Real PeopleT0
A presentation by Dr Helena Enright on her theatre of testimony work followed by a Q&A. Delving into such areas as domestic violence, cancer and road fatalities, Enright has created a number of award winning and critically acclaimed documentary plays inspired by the Theatre of Testimony. As she discusses her understanding of the term Theatre of Testimony Enright shares how she deals with some of the creative and ethical challenges working with this type of material presents. She is joined by Dr Jessica Beck who directed Enright in a production of her play Less Than A Year and collaborated with her on the The Exeter Blitz Project where they discuss the challenges faced by actors working with testimony. Enright's plays include Walking Away, Less Than A Year, Under Pressure and Aquero. Enright is currently working on two new plays Dying to Forgive - an account of a man imprisoned in the Gambia for two years and The River Shannon Project - stories and anecdotes about people's relationship with the River Shannon in Ireland. Enright holds a PhD on the use of testimony in theatre at the University of Exeter.
