Two Days of Theatrical Experiments

Roll up! Roll up! Hosts Present Attempt invite you to step into the Riverside Studios and wonder at the work of some of the boldest contemporary theatre artists in the UK today. A new platform for risk-taking performance makers, SHOW TiME opens a space for artists and audiences to share work and speak their minds. Kings of England presents ‘I Belong to this Band!’, bringing together a shifting collective of musicians and performers to stage a set-list of songs, stories and dances, in celebration of the folk traditions of the British Isles. Bristol based artist Jo Bannon’s Foley, part performance demonstration, part thriller, explores the hand-made techniques of creating film sound effects live on stage. Made in China’s We Hope You Are Happy (Why would we lie?) is a new performance about trying to connect to the person next to you featuring a cooler box full of food and a lot of ketchup, and Ira Brand presents Keine Angst, a project about fear. SHOW TIME will also host a series of works in development: Captain Ko and the Planet of Rice by award winning Dancing Brick, Escape Velocity (Bye Bye Bye) by London based Barometric and ATOMKRAFT, a new work by Greg McLaren, Artistic Director of the acclaimed Stoke Newington International Airport. SHOW TIME has emerged from Present Attempt’s desire to create a platform for contemporary performance work in professional venues. It encourages artists to take the lead in the shape of a fun, hospitable and lively microfestival. Present Attempt intends that SHOW TIME should become a regular event, each time hosted by a different artist/group and nurturing the growth of a community, of both artists and audiences that is actively involved with the development, support and critique of contemporary performance. Present Attempt is a collective of 4 artists making and producing collaborative, interdisciplinary performance works including studio-based pieces, site specific works, writing and research. Past work includes Keeping the Park – a community generated audio tour (commissioned by POST, Merton Council, supported by Arts Council England); Facebook Contract – an online project experimenting with virtual identities; Walking Smiles (2010) - an event that builds a unique map of a city as people wander through it, collecting smiles from passers-by. (Hide and Seek, Hazard Festival 2010); Networks 1.0 (2009) - a durational 24 hour performance which traveled around the UK (Riverside Studios/Forest Fringe 2009); Life at the Molecular Level (2008) and Attempt 3.4 (2007). Present Attempt is James Bush, Alex Eisenberg, Venla Hatakka and John Pinder.
