From Russian woods to outer space, via a chicken shop, the 2014 Soho Young Playwrights showcase is a vibrant mix of classic comedy, heartfelt drama and plays that pack a political punch. All from the direct perspective and thrilling imagination of our youngest Soho Theatre writers. SYP is a project for Year 6 classes in 5 London primary schools, developing writing skills through workshops, involving professional actors, playwrights and a composer, encouraging children to value playwriting as challenging, stimulating and fun. After the series of workshops, the pupils are invited to write a short play of their own and submit them to be read by a panel of the Soho Artistic Team. This year we received 88 plays. Some of the best and most representative are then professionally produced at Soho Theatre.
