Voices of Partition

T01979116826
Voices of Partition explores the tragic events surrounding, and the legacy of the partition of British India in 1947. A principle aim of the theatre debates has been to foster a spirit of reconciliation and healing between British Panjabi people of Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Sikh backgrounds and all other communities who have suffered the consequences of partitions.

Women and Partition

Part of the Sangat series of events, this evening explores the stories of women during the Partition of British India in 1947, uncovering a silent history of violence, migration and resettlement. Often sheltered from private and public areas, women created their own space during this complex and traumatic time. The event features music from Panjabi folk singer Sanyogita Kumari and a talk by Dr Pippa Virdee, senior lecturer in modern south Asian history at De Montfort University. Chaired by Frances Medley of the Magdalena Project (the international network for women in contemporary theatre).
