Adam Bede

Adam BedeT0605459603
Stage adaptation of the absorbing novel of rural 19th century Derbyshire. Adam Bede, a carpenter, is in love with Hetty Sorrel. The Squire, Arthur Donnithorne is also attracted to Hetty and she is vain enough to dream of becoming the Squire's wife. When Arthur abandons Hetty after seducing her, she agrees to marry Adam but then finds she is pregnant and leaves to find her former lover. Adam is supported in his grief by Dinah Morris, a young methodist preacher, who becomes Hetty's comforter, helping her face her final ordeal.
Author George Eliot
