All Creatures Great and Small

All Creatures Great and SmallT01240415508
When newly qualified vet, James Herriot, arrives in the small North Yorkshire village of Darrowby to take up his first job in the established veterinary practice of Siegfried Farnon, he has no idea of the adventures that await him. With the country-folk's inherent suspicion of strangers and their treatment of sick animals rooted in the past, James faces many challenges to win over the villagers of Darrowby. But through his good humour and skill with all manner of animal ailments, the country vet soon becomes a central part of their lives and forges friendships which will last a lifetime. The play captures the laughter, joy and magic of the original novels which inspired the hit BBC TV series, and is a chance to escape into a much simpler time, when life moved at a slower pace, the health of your pigs was your only worry and the only thing that twittered was the birds!
Book by James Herriot

Peter GH Milbank (05Jul14): To the cast of All Creatures Great and Small. We would like to thank you for a most excellent evenings entertainment here in the Cambridge Arts Theatre tonight. What a clever script great set and lighting. Travelled all round the Dales. We could smell the cow shit. Having spent many a happy holiday with the local vet in Halstead in Essex when I was in my late teens I was transported back to a very happy time. Old Mr Waters was out of the same draw as Siegfried and well I remember a similar episode when we visited an old lady in Sibil Headingham with an old Labrador in the same circumstances which he kindly and sensitively had to put to sleep. Lovely evening. Made my 68th birthday really special. Thank you so much. I hope you go onto have a very long and successful season. We will certainly be cheering for you and encouraging our friends to come. With best wishes, Peter GH Milbank. Cambridge. 5 July 2014
