Black Ey'd Susan

T0837490941
Written by Douglas Jerrold in 1829, when the country was still recovering from the fallout of the Napoleonic wars, Black Ey d Susan takes something of a side-swipe at the widespread corruption that was rife within the British Navy. Full of recognisably stock comic characters, but written with an underlying serious message, the play proved a massive and popular hit with audiences of the day.

Production details

Work in progress. As part of our on-going research into Georgian theatre, a company of actors will work for one week on the play, learning and developing the theatrical styles and techniques that were used at this time. This informal presentation is an opportunity for you to see what progress they have made and for us to demonstrate just how entertaining this and countless other plays from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries can be for today s audiences.
