Blue Whale/The Road from Kowloon Park
T0
Blue Whale by Rina Katselli. Set shortly after the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus when an exchange of populations took place on the island and 200,000 people were driven from their homes. A family of Greek Cypriots tries to rebuild their lives after their uprooting. The story takes them to various refugee camps over a period of 2 years in search of peace as a family and as individuals. It brilliantly draws a parallel between populations that are 'under extinction' and the blue whale, a species that was declared extinct in the early 1980 s.
