Details

Play :: The play tells the story of mathematician and athlete Alan Turing who as a key figure in recent British history worked on top secret papers at Bletchley Park and broke the famous Enigma Code used by the Germans in the Second World War. It was Turing's ideas which led to the development of modern computer science. As early as 1936 he devised in his imagination a universal machine that could solve any mathematical problem and undertake any task demanded of it, however, it was not until nearly ten years later that he was able to embody this idea in his plans for an electric computer. Turing was a loner, a brilliant intellectual, a sensitive and unconventional man. He was deeply loved but seldom understood by those who knew him. His openness and honesty led him into conflict with the law and the authorities who considered him a security risk because of his homosexuality. So why is Alan Turing's name not as well known as it might be given his extraordinary contribution to history and science?
