Buck is a powerful and high-spirited dog, revelling in his sunkissed existence in the Santa Clara Valley. Years of taming have led him to trust man, and stamped out his primal instincts. But when gold rush fever hits California, human greed and cruelty tear Buck's easy life apart. Stolen from his home and thrust into an underground world, he is sold into a sled-pulling band of dogs hardened by despair and determination. On the torturous drive North, he begins to forget his sheltered existence and follow the deep-rooted call of the wild.
