Damned Publishing

Damned Publishing is a dramatised history of Britain's most innovative publisher, who produced such literary authors as Samuel Beckett, William Burroughs, Henry Miller, Eugen lonesco, many playwrights and political writers and innumerable books about the arts and the events of the last 50 years. John Calder introduced literature, very controversially, into the Edinburgh Festival - and was prosecuted for obscenity - with books that attacked army outrages in the British colonies, for bringing our American literature under threat from Senator Joe McCarthy, and was sued for libel for books challenging civic corruption. What was terrible then, is either comic or the stuff of high drama in retrospect.
