Dolly Peel archiveLove, laughter, drama, romance, comedy and intrigue, all the ingredients of a great story, and all central to the story of Dolly Peel. Rooted in the heart of South Tyneside, the play was first performed at the Alexandra Theatre in 1923. The story of Dolly Peel is interwoven with a young couple in love and full of hope for the future. Throw in an embittered miserly father, a doting nanny with a heart of gold, the election of South Shield's first MP, Royal Navy press gangs, comic local characters, smugglers, some of Dolly Peel's original songs, verses set to music, fights and murder and you have a really gripping tale.
