Faustus

T767251252
Drawing on a mixture of classical text, physicality and clowning, award winning Non Stop Cabaret have taken Marlowe's Dr Faustus and created a piece of contemporary, visceral theatre. A youthful and naive Faustus is manipulated by a series of grotesque and sinister, yet alarmingly alluring characters, taking him on a journey to eternal damnation. Faustus is an individual who has despaired of the limits of the mortal world, and longs for everything he has yet to achieve. Drawing parallels with our everyday obsession with celebrity and mass consumerism, Non Stop Cabaret, along with writer Benjamin Cooper and award winning Director, Simon NW Winterman, have deconstructed Marlowe's text to create a story about a man's fixation with a desire to gain the ultimate insight and control in life. A youthful and naive Faustus is manipulated by a series of grotesque and sinister, yet alarmingly alluring characters, and taken on a journey that leads him to eternal damnation. As we draw closer to the end of the first decade of the 21st Century, we felt it important to create a Faustus that explores the limits of temptation and lustful desire, as well as some of the fundamental questions of contemporary life: What does it mean to 'be' in the world? How can we make ourselves accountable for our place in the world? Ultimately, Faustus questions how can we ever understand the temporality of our existence?
