T0389505212 (DERNGATE04)This new production of Faustus juxtaposes the original Marlowe script with a new parallel storyline about the "enfant terribles" of Britart - the Chapman Brothers' (whose notorious work Hell was destroyed in the Monmart fire in London this year) and the creation of one their most controversial works yet - Insult to Injury. The new plot is a fictionalised account of the alteration of the Goya etchings. It asks questions about how far art should be held as sacred and whether it is ever justifiable to alter or update a piece of art. It also questions the nature of 'good' and 'evil', providing a Faustian parable for the 21st Century. This production is set to cement Rupertıs reputation for breathing new life into classic works of English literature. Through a spectacular combination of music, video and lighting Faustus switches between Elizabethan and modern England to create a unique theatrical experience.Producer Royal and Derngate Theatre.
