Gallows Rope archiveLondon, 21st century. Emile needs privacy. He is unable to communicate with people but has convinced himself that he doesn't need society anymore. Across the corridor lives Ms Rysova, his middle-aged landlady, with whom he nurtures a strange, affectionate yet repulsive relationship. When, to his complete dismay, circumstances force him to accept a new housemate, Helena, his life takes a positive turn; he falls in love and for a brief moment he is happy. But, of course, violence and misery are in the post. The Play captures the struggles of solitary existence in the overpopulated city. This is a dark but passionate investigation of the modern shared household by showing the unfathomable relationships between four characters.
