Hamlet archiveWritten between 1599 and 1601. The play, set in Denmark, recounts how Prince Hamlet exacts revenge on his uncle Claudius, who has murdered Hamlet's father, the King, and then taken the throne and married Gertrude, Hamlet's mother. The play vividly charts the course of real and feigned madness - from overwhelming grief to seething rage - and explores themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption.

Film Noir meets The Great American Songbook in this 40s inspired, streamlined re-telling of Hamlet. Set in a would-be glamourous period nightclub and framed by performances of classic jazz numbers, The Bridge's production plays with the boundaries between art and life - as Hamlet, Claudius, Ophelia, Gertrude, Polonius and the rest struggle to convince the world of their own versions of reality. Lust, betrayal and madness seen through the prism of Noir motifs: the city and the night, the femme fatale, the bars of the cage.Producer The Bridge Theatre Training Company. Director Mark Akrill.

This production has been firmly relocated to our own divided little island. In the near future our country is fragmented and broken; a disunited kingdom. Amid the rubble of the old politics a popular sovereign rose to power, King Hamlet, promising a return to England's golden age. But now the king is dead, murdered, and in the ensuing bloodbath his brother has seized the throne. In the age of paranoia, conspiracy theories thrive. Our post-truth world is turning its back on a shared objective truth. We are all Hamlet's children now; we sense that something is broken, we feel that everything is wrong, but we know not what to do. As our leaders plot and scheme for power, as mobs agitate, and people protest, we are heading towards a political cliff with no-one seemingly able to stop our fall. How can we find our way out of this maze of our own making? Are we prisoners of our own confirmation-bias? Only able to see the world through the distorted lens of our own personal bubble? Who are the enemies of the people? Should we try to stop them? And what happens if we try?Company Iris Theatre. Director Daniel Winder. Design Mike Leopold. Choreographer Nathaniel Marten (fights). The Factory's Hamlet - T01483215207

Every character in the play can be performed from a selection of different actors each night, as each performer has learnt numerous parts. You may for example, see an actor playing Hamlet one night, and Guildenstern the next. The cast will not know which character they will be playing until just before the show begins, when the audience decide. There is no set. What the actors perform on depends entirely on where The Factory has decided to play. If there is a set, it will belong to someone else's production, which will be used for that one occasion. There are no designated props. Any object that you see on stage or used by an actor will come from the audience. It may be a shoe, a phone, a inflatable dingy... ANYTHING you can bring in to be used. Audience members are encouraged to bring as weird and bold a prop that they can think of! ( Please note, we cannot accept responsibility for damaged props! )Director Tim Carroll (with [Tamara Harvey] and [Louis Scheeder]).

What if the irrational impulses and nightmarish terrors beneath the surface of the orderly civilised mind were surrendered to drama? Inspired by the eighteenth century gothic movement and the imagery of the early circus, this fresh new production of Hamlet brings a classic tale of dark desire, madness and revenge to life. Against the shadowed backdrop of Elsinore, where whispers of intrigue echo down the halls, the romantic rebel prince Hamlet battles against a truth he cannot accept, cavorting with the macabre travelling players and questioning the validity of natural and unnatural relations. Cambridge University's finest actors, technicians and designers cross the Atlantic to present, in Shakespeare's masterpiece, a world of performance and spectacle in a court where appearance is all.Company Cambridge University American Stage Tour (CAST).
