Becalmed in the middle of nowhere, Salty Bugger the Sailor is simply waiting for something - anything - to change. Lazlo Pearlman has lived the same moment. He Was A Sailor... is a surrealist cabaret that dips into the grotesque, influenced by silent films and cartoons, the art of Pierre et Gilles and Fassbinder's Querelle. A kind of fantasmagoria channelling the spirit of early German expressionist cinema and the 1980s cult classic Oingo Boingo's Forbidden Zone,
He Was A Sailor... embarks on a voyage well-stocked with sea shanties, 1930s novelty songs, and Busby Berkeley - inspired dance numbers - with boats.
