Beginning at midnight and lasting until dawn, Hotel Medea is an interactive, promenade performance, featuring a vibrant Brazilian party, a soundtrack by internationally renowned DJ Dolores, a quasi-religious ritual, live video technology and some steaming cups of hot chocolate. The show opens with the meeting and marriage of Medea and Jason; as live music plays the barriers between the company and the audience disintegrate, and together they create a frenzied maze of food, blood and dance. Later, communications take place over mobile phones and video as audience and performers range through the building. After participating in something akin to a religious ritual, the audience shares a breakfast with the performers, reflecting on the night’s events before emerging into the dawn. Hotel Medea, based on the ancient Greek revenge myth, Medea, has been in development over the last two years, with showings of its progress at The Shunt Vaults, The Salisbury International Festival and the LIFT Festival as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Galicia, Spain and CPC Gargarullo Theatre in Rio de Janeiro. With a cast of 23 performers and musicians, the work draws on a range of performance disciplines from different cultures to create a piece that challenges usual performer/audience relationships. The team behind the show is collaborating with a selection of other artists and groups whose work will form a part of Hotel Medea. Running time 6hrsCompany Zecora Ura (featuring the Urban Dolls Project).
