Brick Lane '78

Altab Ali was a Bangladeshi textile worker who was murdered by three teenagers on 4 May 1978 in a racist attack as he walked home after work. It provoked the mass mobilisation of the Bengali community locally. It was a defining moment for the British-Bangladeshi's who first time ever stood-up on their own feet with their identity, rights and dignity against far-right party's propaganda and activities. With the current new wave of white supremacy and far-right activities showing their aggression not only in UK, but Europe and the other side of the Atlantic, this stand-up moment in 78 is still relevant now to all minority and oppressed groups.
