T1529157710 (BARB09)The critically acclaimed National Theatre of Scotland and Dundee Rep Ensemble co-production of Henrick Ibsen’s Peer Gynt which premiered at Dundee Rep in 2007. This new version of Peer Gynt, written by Colin Teevan, is directed by Dominic Hill whose Ubu the King played during the Young Genius season in bite05. Peer Gynt is a dreamer, liar and serial womaniser. Cast out from his home town, Peer embarks on a wild and astonishing journey in search of fame and fortune. In this anarchic production, Peer becomes a people trafficker and war profiteer. The play reunites Gerry Mulgrew (as the older Peer) and Ann Louise Ross (as his mother) who both starred in Ubu the King. After the Barbican run Peer Gynt tours Scotland.Producer Dundee Rep Ensemble. T1013554625 (CITZ00)In this modern reinvention of [Ibsen]'s epic poem, Clare Venables cuts to the heart and soul of the original. In the protagonist's search for his own soul he makes the choice to remain free of human attachments, not realising that by doing so he destroys any chance he has of redemption. Dealing with powerful questions on the nature of free will and how our choices affect our lives and happiness, this is a Peer Gynt for the urban age.Director Clare Venables. Design Duncan MacAskill.
