Who Knows Where/Mess/I Promise to Swim the Channe/And Hell Followed with Them/Karinthy: There is No Art Without Science

Who Knows Where is a collection of material which is revealed in an improvised order. Edward Rapley is a: Supported Artist of The Basement, Brighton; member of Residence; and Arnolfini Associate Artist. Mess by Caroline Horton - A story about neurosis, obsession and not wanting to get out of bed. Welcome to Josephine’s show. (Boris helps... he is important too...well quite important and always does his best). Unflinchingly the pair confront big issues (and extremely tiny ones) and today they will tackle one particularly thin elephant in the room. Two clowns, some madness and a giant duvet. I Promise To Swim The Channel (or the story of how I might) by Francesca Millican-Slater - The sea makes my heart lurch like seeing an old lover, makes my stomach contract like meeting a new one. In order to be close to it, to really get to know it I have decided to swim the channel. Come September 2012. This is a swim demonstration of the facts that I find and the stories that scatter the channel between this country and France. Little bits of information and tips for preparation that I have begun to collect in this (very slow) process of readying myself for the swim. The beginning of the story. And Hell Followed with ThemAND by Drunken Chorus - Taking inspiration from Tobe Hooper, Chuck Palahniuk and David Lynch, Drunken Chorus descend into a dark and disturbing world of fear and tension. Combining short glimpses of violence, with long drawn out scenes of abject horror, the performance explores the role of rhythm and structure in the creation of suspense. It is a performance that questions our perceptions of horror; a performance full of darkness and silence; a performance that lies always in the shadow of some horrific act. Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, Nuffield Theatre Lancaster / Live at LICA, Junction, LANWest and Testing Grounds. Karinthy: There Is No Art Without Science by Millions and Pliers - A violent mixture of humour, tragedy and neuroscience, forgotten vaudevillian double-act Millions and Pliers take you on a journey around the skull of Hungarian author Karinthy Frigyes, who developed a brain tumour and died whilst tying his shoelace. Created by members of the critically-acclaimed Kindle Theatre, Karinthy: There Is No Art Without Science explores the twisted history of brain surgery and the pain of malignant relationships. "Clearly, almost appetisingly, he parted the cerebral membrane, which had a queer unnatural look, like a hair net. Underneath it, one could see the grey matter of the brain trembling in its bony case..." Karinthy Frigyes, A Journey Round My Skull An installation in the foyer: Post present Future by Cross Collaborations - Cross Collaborations create captivating interactive performance installations. As a collective we share a fascination in exploring the future. We play with shaping impossible futures and challenge our sense of perspective. Our current enquiry uses edited letters collected from writing installation, ‘Post Present Future,’ to provide a glimpse into peoples predicted futures. Cross Collaborations invite you to choose a writing desk and take delight in crafting a letter to your future self, which you will receive in the post in five years time. Running time: 1hr 50mins (incl. interval) Studio
