At first, characters Mark, Joe and Charlotte appear to be typical examples of well-adjusted, socially responsible adults. But, as the story unfolds they're exposed for their emotional inadequacies and self-serving ways. Evelyn is a product of their failings as she battles to understand and come to terms with her own demons.
