On a February day in 1961, Lucy Taylor, typical housewife and mother, went on a shopping spree and never returned. Was it a momentary lapse in her always patchy memory that prevented her from going home, or is that star blinking in the night sky proof that she conquered man's dream of exploring the universe? Move over Valentian Tereshkova, for we are about to discover a new rocket girl who beat you to outer space. Lucy Taylor has always been in a world of her own, so when NASA approaches her and invites her to take part in a top secret space mission, she can't help but say yes. Armed only with her determination and her official Petticoat Project Journal, she launches into space to face a challenge that is out of this world.
