The story of frustrated young (illegally young in modern terms) love and death and the vendetta between two families in a tight-knit Italian community. One of Shakespeare's most popular and enduring dramas it has also been re-done as film, ballet, musical (most notably "West Side Story") and ice spectacular!

Two families at war. Why?
Homophobia. The Montagues bear an 'ancient grudge' against the Capulets' employment of a gay transvestite Nurse. The Capulets begin a 'new mutiny' in response to Romeo, the Montagues' lesbian daughter, coming out. Against this background Juliet and Romeo meet...Theirs is a love that dare not speak its name in a climate of prejudice, hatred, and violence. The result - inevitable? This interpretation cleverly challenges many preconceptions about the play and its characters, giving a disturbingly relevant setting to the story of forbidden love.
