Silver Birch House
T1565725128
Caught in the cross-fire of history, a peasant family strives to make a life. The father believes that if he were only left in peace he could build a heaven for his family on this bare mountain. But as the dangerous world outside creeps ever further into his home the confrontations, though terrifying, offer the children glimpses of another life, a life beyond their father's incomprehensible obsession with his worthless land. As children come of age they must choose sides in the conflict; fearing for their lives, the mother begs the father to flee. What keeps him here? Why do his silver birch trees seem more precious to him than the lives of his own daughters?
