In the heart of Bristol's city centre and as their first major collaboration, Arnolfini and Bristol Old Vic co-present small metal objects, an ingenious theatrical gem that has been a hit all over the world which is being performed in the UK for the only time this year. Australia's truly remarkable Back to Back Theatre will be performing small metal objects at The Podium in central Broadmead from 21- 24 May. Described as master provocateurs - they nudge and subvert audiences into seeing beauty where it is hidden. The company's work defies convention, challenges logic and questions the imperative to be ?normal'.
Small Metal Objects unfolds amidst the high volume pedestrian traffic of the city. The audience is seated on a raised bank at one end of the space, individual sets of headphones providing an intimate and exclusive soundtrack of dialogue and music. small metal objects is the story of two invisible men and their inadvertent role in the downfall of a business awards night. A funny and disturbing examination of our cultural and individual identity and how our individual visibility is determined by our capacity to produce. Its theme has particular relevance for those who are traditionally perceived as less 'productive'- people with disabilities or the unemployed. The production is an examination of 'respect', or 'lack of respect', of not being seen and not being accounted for as full human beings
