Steaming underground pools in basements with silent swimmers, overgrown gardens concealing secrets of the past and chrome trolleys with life-saving equipment hurtling down corridors through swinging doors while cigar-smoking men clad in towels pad barefoot in the distance clutching mobile phones. A spa where the presence of Elizabeth Garratt Anderson constantly haunts the corridors with the glimpse and the rustle of skirt as a turn of the stair is climbed.
