Play :: Three hilarious farces from the great Russian writer: The Bear - an obstreperous landowner comes to claim a debt from a young widow in perpetual mourning; the clash that follows is truly volcanic. The Anniversary - preparations for a Bank's fifteenth anniversary are reduced to chaos by the depredations of a misguided elderly petitioner and the Chairman's young wife. The Proposal - Lomov's proposal for the hand of his neighbour Natasha threatens to come to grief in a welter of petty argument.
