The Dutch Courtesan

T462767911
'Every man must follow his trade, and every woman her occupation' The Dutch Courtesan is John Marston's bawdy comedy of bad manners. London 1605 - a dirty, dangerous city, teeming with city slickers, wide boys, whores and cheats. This is the setting for Marston's most entertaining and accessible play, an inquiry into the extent to which the natural desires of man can be ignored or suppressed in the supposed interest of 'higher activities'. "The difference betwixt the love of a courtesan and a wife is the full scope of the play, which, intermixed with the deceits of a witty city jester, fills up the comedy."
Author John Marston
