Many millennia in the future, the Earth is protected by 'The Curtain - a vast force field which holds all foreign life at bay. But now The Visitors (an apparently benign but unknown intelligence from space) have approached and wait at The Curtain seeking entry. Amelios, leader of the Gaians and ruler of the Earth, knows that The Furthering of humanity, possible only by contact with The Visitors, hangs in the balance. There is only one problem - Diasanon, Amelios mad and fanatical son who holds the key to the Curtain and who will never allow it to be opened...
