The Gog/Magog Project

The Gog/Magog ProjectT01274637985
More than a decade ago, Alexander Gog embarked on a radical experiment in the extremes of artistic expression, social protest, and theatrical activism; caged and delivering nightly performances from his cell for a period of one year as part of The Gog/Magog Project. Tragically, as a result of the deaths of those with whom the project began and Gog's former lover taking command of the experiment, what was meant to be one year has become fifteen. Gog has been moved from venue to venue, country to country, and made to survive exclusively on a diet of the 23 July 2001 Daily Telegraph and Banana-Flavoured 'Moon Pies'. Causing a stir among civil rights authorities in opposition to its constant international touring, some have claimed that the artist has been exploited for the financial gain of the pharmaceutical industry, sporting goods manufacturers, and government interests, calling for his immediate release despite seemingly voluntary imprisonment. Make what ethical judgements you will, The Gog/Magog Project challenges the notion of artistic expression and the extremes to which one particular artist has taken such an endeavour. This October, Random Acts Theatre brings to London an alternative theatre experience that cannot - and perhaps should not - be duplicated and invites you travel the myriad labyrinth that forms the fractured psyche of an artist named Gog?
