Play :: Grant Buchanan Marshall's award winning first play depicts a family in the grip of hell. As a young boy, Granville is subjected to physical and mental torture by his bullying father. Beaten into submission, battered into a complete wreck, and forced to pay the price of his father's ambition. Meanwhile his mother looks on in complicit silence until one day, many years later, Granville returns to the family home... The Prayer is the winner of the Alfred Fagon Award, given annually to the best new play for theatre in English by writers from the Caribbean or with Caribbean antecedents.
