The Trumpet Major is a romance that tells the story of pretty Anne Garland and her three suitors: John Loveday, a gallant soldier, Bob Loveday, his thoughtless but sexier younger brother and Festus Derriman, a pompous and self-regarding dilettante. With the local villagers constantly fearing an invasion by Napoleon's fleet, Anne finds her fortunes ever bound up with historical events as she fluctuates between her lovers before finally making her unexpected choice.
