Backstage: where dreams go to die ...and Jennifer goes to work. Jennifer wanted to be onstage - to live under the lights. However somehow she's ended up backstage - under the icy gaze of Stage-Manager, Anne: "Glamour? Well, what were you expecting? Sequined jeans, and a tiara, diamond studded? A rose in a lover's hand, sparkling with dew as he thrusts it into yours? A ghost whispering into your ear the secrets to theatre as you sing your lungs out into a mirror?" But Jennifer's innocent bumbling unwittingly reveals a truth about Anne - a truth that ends Anne's career and hugely advances Jennifer along the backstage ranks. The resulting fallout leads both women to a life of confusion and uncertainty - torn between the ordered world of the props desk and the unfathomable chaos of reality. Tragic yet comic, Under The Blacklight throws into relief the murky world of those helplessly married to the wings.
