Volpone (Acts IV-V)
T01163308183
Sir Politic Would-Be opens Act IV with tourist tips for English travellers to Venice. The play ends with Volpone being led to prison but twenty-five lines later he is back on stage delivering the play's Epilogue. The British Library owns a copy of the play inscribed by Jonson to John Florio whose 1598 Italian-English dictionary defines a volpone as "an old fox, an old reinard, an old craftie, slie, subtle companion, sneaking, lurking, wily deceiver".
