Why Me?

T02048800173
John Bailey returns to his South London home a member of the 'over three million club', and the bitter recipient of a 'tarnished chrome' handshake, having been made redundant from his job as a civil engineer. During the ensuing summer he struggles bravely with job rejections, endures loss of dignity in the face of his wife Helen's hugely successful pizza business, survives an adulterous affair with his next door neighbour, broods over the looming break up of his marriage, comes to terms with the shattering revelation that his teenage son is a transvestite rock musician, and suffers repeated forays into his living room by his mother-in-law who refuses to stay in her adjoining granny flat. Battling against the odds, John identifies strongly with the Biblical figure Job and eventually, like him, his story ends happily - reunited with Helen, both in marriage and a rather tasty new business venture.
